Episode 8: Can Blockchain Records Change?

Hey guys.

Hi everybody,
Jason King here co-founder at Kingsland University School of blockchain, the only accredited school for blockchain development in the world.
I’m running through the top 99 questions asked to us about blockchain so today’s question it’s pretty good one is that once data has been written to a blockchain can it be modified and that answer which will surprise a lot of people is yeah absolutely it could definitely be modified but the key takeaway is is that a blockchain is immutable means that once something’s been written to it the record that that’s been written can never be changed so if I write something incorrectly can I go back and then change it like can I change a balance on something yeah I can but what’s really interesting about blockchain is the record that I changed it is now permanent too so if I say that something is one-way and I write it one way and I go back and change it I can’t ever pretend like I didn’t write it the first way that’s what makes things like Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies possible because if we’re sending bitcoins back and forth to each other and everybody conceded you’re sending me a Bitcoin I’m sending bitcoins on to other people I can’t then go back and say oh hey wait a minute I didn’t send that Bitcoin out it’s still mine because there’s a permanent record of that so I’m changing the data and saying that yeah it’s not mine but the whole rest of the network won’t agree with me because of that so you can change things on blockchain but there’s always going to be a record that it got changed so you’re gonna have to stay honest
take care guysb
